Who qualifies to become a Member of AFSUG?
The Africa SAP User Group, (AFSUG), is a body formed to promote the interests of companies who have purchased software from SAP AG. Currently over 130 large enterprise companies from all industries in Africa are members of AFSUG.
As an independent registered Non-Profit (Section 21) Organization (registration number 2000/008762/08 under section 54(1) of the Companies Act of 1973) with a constitutional and operational framework for customers and partners within the African region, it ensures customer independence.
AFSUG, run by a Board of Directors comprising of customer – and partner members representatives who have extensive experience in running SAP R/3, wish to ensure the collective knowledge of all the customers in the practical application of SAP is leveraged for collaboration and influence towards the development of activities, products, policies and services of SAP AG, related vendors and consulting partners in the interest of all member organisations to meet business user requirements and to unleash the value of our SAP investments. It also provides a forum to serve the interests of SAP customers, representing their Industries, Business Processes and – Solutions and Technology Architecture.
By means of consistency and openness of approach, the aim is to develop a ‘win-win’ relationship with SAP. AFSUG shall not be a bureaucracy but a mechanism to facilitate relationships between members and SAP Africa
We give members a platform for active participation:
Through regular, focused and highly professional contact between customers, the business partners and with SAP at all levels, AFSUG promotes the needs and wishes of the User community. Additionally, through this contact, it assists SAP in the management of the service-related challenges presented by rapid growth.
Continuously expanding our continental footprint, our events and Special Interest Groups are currently presented in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Soon two new AFSUG regions will be added for regular events, hosted respectively in Logos and Nairobi respectively.
We want to help every member company and SAP professional – new and seasoned – to evolve to the next level, to grow in a supportive community whereby every one of us can contribute to the continual value-add to our respective companies that invested in SAP Software and –solutions). It is one of AFSUG’s initiatives to assist our member professionals to be seen by business as trusted advisors, strategic drivers of change and to believe they have made the right technology investments which will result in growth of the business.
Who qualifies to become a Member of AFSUG
AFSUG membership resides at the company level, meaning an unlimited number of employees may utilize company membership benefits without incurring individual membership charges. Membership fees are per annum.
Therefore, once a Company become a paid member of AFSUG, attendance to AFSUG events is free for company employees, SAP users and SAP Professionals
Categories of Membership:
Customers Companies:
These shall comprise those organisations who utilise the SAP software for operation within their business. The precise definition of a Customer Member in this regard will be determined by the AFSUG Board of Directors from time to time as technology, the SAP product line and other circumstances change.
Customers Companies:
These shall comprise those organisations who utilise the SAP software for operation within their business. Business Partners:
Companies who are Business, Implementation, Consulting or Service Partners of SAP may join AFSUG as Business Partner Members. Ordinarily Business Partners shall be eligible to be granted membership of AFSUG. A membership application must be completed and submitted and approved by the Board of Directors. Representatives from Business Partners may be nominated and selected to take up membership of the AFSUG Board of Directors and have voting rights. But a representative of a Business Partner Member will not be eligible to serve as a Chairperson of the AFSUG Board of Directors, even if such a company is also a customer of SAP.
Associate Member:
This category shall comprise those organisations or individuals whose membership of AFSUG shall be to the benefit of the user community at large (e.g. tertiary institutions or independent SAP professionals). A membership application must be completed and submitted and approved by the Board of Directors. Associate members or their representatives may be a member of the Board but will not be eligible to serve as a Chairperson of the AFSUG Board of Directors.
SAP Africa:
Will be a member of AFSUG and have one vote at the AFSUG Board of Directors and Annual General Meetings. SAP Africa shall nominate a person from their SAP Africa Executive Team to represent and to act on their behalf in meetings with the Board, but will not be eligible to serve as a Chairperson of the AFSUG Board of Directors.
Attendees:
Any individual who, under approved AFSUG policy, is permitted to attend an AFSUG function or event, eg. prospective customers, but will not have any voting rights.

Applications shall be processed in accordance with the AFSUG policies and procedures. Acceptance of membership is the responsibility of the AFSUG Board of Directors in accordance with the Bylaws or applicable AFSUG policy.
